Product Questions
What makes Sève different from other energy gels?
Sève uses pure Canadian maple syrup as the carbohydrate base instead of maltodextrin. This provides dual-pathway absorption (glucose + fructose) for better energy delivery with less GI distress. We use citrate-based electrolytes which are gentler on the stomach and more bioavailable than sea salt or pink Himalayan salt.
How much caffeine is in Focus?
Focus contains 70mg of natural caffeine from green coffee bean extract per gel. This is roughly equivalent to one cup of coffee—enough for a performance boost without jitters.
What's the difference between Flow, Focus, and Recover?
Flow: Our base gel with 26g carbs, 190mg sodium, no caffeine. Use during steady-state efforts.
Focus: Same as Flow but with 70mg caffeine for performance benefits during tough efforts or late race kilometers.
Recover: Contains 50mg magnesium to support active muscle recovery. Use during recovery runs, long runs, or when you feel your legs could use support and aid muscle repair.
Are Sève gels vegan and gluten-free?
Yes! All Sève gels are 100% vegan and gluten-free. They contain only plant-based ingredients: maple syrup, citrate electrolytes, natural flavors, and (in Focus) green coffee bean extract.
Usage & Fueling Strategy
How many gels should I take per hour?
Most athletes target 60-90g carbs per hour for endurance efforts. Since each gel contains 23g carbs, aim for 2-3 gels per hour depending on intensity and personal tolerance. Start with 2 gels per hour and adjust based on feel.
When should I take my first gel?
For races or hard efforts over 90 minutes, take your first gel 15-20 minutes into the effort. This ensures steady energy before your glycogen stores deplete. For shorter efforts (under 60 minutes), pre-race fueling is usually sufficient.
Do I need to take gels with water?
Yes. Always take gels with water (3-4 sips) to aid absorption and prevent GI distress. The water helps dilute the gel and supports proper digestion.
Can I use Sève gels for cycling, swimming, or other sports?
Absolutely. While we market primarily to runners, our gels work for any endurance sport—cycling, triathlon, cross-country skiing, trail running, hiking, or mountaineering. Any activity lasting over 90 minutes benefits from carbohydrate fueling.
